Usage notes

  • Use devoto mainly for religion or strong loyalty. For affectionate attachment to a person, devoted in English is often better translated by affezionato or fedele.
  • With a person, it usually takes a or verso: devoto a Dio, devoto alla famiglia. Don't use di for the object of devotion.
  • It agrees like a normal adjective: devoto, devota, devoti, devote. Common in neutral to formal contexts; less colloquial than very common loyal adjectives.
