Usage notes
- Mostly literary or formal. In everyday speech, use stare sdraiato for people and trovarsi/essere situato for places.
- Its past participle is giaciuto and it takes avere: ha giaciuto. Forms are uncommon outside formal or written contexts.
- For location, giacere often sounds elevated: La città giace nella valle. Learners often overuse it where trovarsi is more natural.
- present: giaccio, giaci, giace, giacciamo, giacete, giacciono
