Usage notes
- Use giocatore for sports, games, gambling, and sometimes instruments. For an actor in a role, use interprete or attore, not giocatore.
- For team sports, atleta is broader and more formal; giocatore specifically highlights playing the sport or game.
- The feminine is giocatrice. Don’t use *giocatora; agreement changes normally: una brava giocatrice, due giocatrici esperte.
