Usage notes
- Use lato for a physical side or aspect; use fianco for a person's side/flank and bordo for the edge of an object.
- In directions, use a/destra or a/sinistra more often than sul lato destro/sinistro unless you mean a specific side of something.
- With body parts, il lato can mean one side of the body, but fianco is more natural for the area between ribs and hip.
