Usage notes

  • Use musicale for both “musical” and “music-related”: talento musicale, educazione musicale. For “sounding pleasant,” Italian often prefers melodioso or armonioso.
  • It agrees in gender and number: musicale, musicali. Don’t confuse it with musicista, which means “musician,” not “musical.”
  • As a noun, un musical means a stage musical, borrowed from English. That is different from the adjective musicale.
