Usage notes

  • Use neanche mostly in speech and informal writing; nemmeno is very close, while neppure often sounds slightly more formal or literary.
  • Before a noun, neanche often means “not even”: neanche un euro. Before a clause, it can mean “not even” or “neither.”
  • For “me neither,” say neanch’io or io neanche in conversation; non io is not idiomatic.
