Usage notes
- Use piegare for folding or bending something physical; use ripiegare for folding back/up neatly, especially clothes, paper, or strollers.
- For vehicles turning, Italian usually prefers svoltare, not piegare. Piega can appear in sports or road contexts, but it is more specialized.
- As a transitive verb it takes avere: ho piegato il foglio. Reflexive piegarsi uses essere: mi sono piegato dalle risate.
