Usage notes
- Use rovesciare for overturning or spilling by tipping. For simply dropping liquid, versare or far cadere is often more natural.
- As a transitive verb it usually takes avere: ho rovesciato il bicchiere. Reflexive rovesciarsi is common for things that tip over by themselves.
- For governments or regimes, rovesciare is standard. For everyday objects, learners often overuse capovolgere, which sounds more technical or deliberate.
