Usage notes
- Telefono is the device. For a phone call, use telefonata: Ho ricevuto una telefonata, not ho ricevuto un telefono.
- In everyday Italian, cellulare often means mobile phone. Telefono can be generic or sound more like the device itself.
- With the verb, say telefonare a qualcuno. Don’t copy English: Mi telefoni domani? not Mi telefoni domani.
