- Use fare sciopero or essere in sciopero. Scioperare is also common; avoid saying avere uno sciopero.
- For transport or school disruptions, Italians often say c'è sciopero today, without naming who is striking.
- General strike is sciopero generale; hunger strike is sciopero della fame, not *sciopero di fame*.
