Notas de uso

  • Use tradire for betraying a person, trust, country, or ideals. For cheating on a partner, Italians also commonly say tradire qualcuno.
  • For accidentally giving something away, tradire is common: La voce lo ha tradito. Svelare is more deliberate, like revealing a secret on purpose.
  • It usually takes avere in compound tenses: ha tradito. Direct object pronouns come before the auxiliary: l'ha tradito.
