- Use volontario for a person; volontariato is the activity or field of volunteering.
- As an adjective, volontario means voluntary: servizio volontario, confessione volontaria. Don’t use the noun form there.
- Plural is volontari. With mixed groups, Italian usually uses the masculine plural: i volontari.
