Who we are
DataInterview LLC operates HeyPolyglot and is responsible for the personal information we handle to provide the service. This Policy explains what we collect, why we use it, which service providers help us, and the choices available to you.

Information we handle
- Account information: your user identifier, email, name and profile details supplied when you sign in, including information shared by your chosen sign-in provider.
- Learning information: language and voice preferences, lesson and exercise activity, answers, scores, saved words, flashcard ratings and review schedules.
- AI interactions: text, conversation context, writing submissions, audio recordings you choose to submit, and generated responses, transcriptions or feedback.
- Billing and usage: your subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, credit balances and usage records. Stripe collects payment information through its hosted checkout and billing portal; our application does not receive your full card number.
- Technical information: information such as IP address, browser and device details, request and error logs, timestamps, page activity and referral information used to run, secure and understand the service.
- Support messages: the information you include when you contact us.
You can browse public grammar notes without an account. Technical information may still be processed when you visit public pages.
How we use information
We use information to authenticate accounts, deliver lessons and feedback, remember preferences, save progress, schedule reviews, process payments, enforce credit allowances, respond to support requests, prevent abuse and diagnose problems.
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on performance of our agreement with you for requested features and billing; legitimate interests for security, service reliability and appropriate product improvement; legal obligations for required records; and consent where required. You may withdraw consent for processing based on consent without affecting processing that already occurred.
AI, recordings and generated audio
When you use an AI feature, the information needed for that feature is sent to AI service providers. For example, pronunciation feedback requires the recording and exercise prompt; writing feedback requires the writing and relevant instructions; a conversation may include prior turns for context.
Our integrations include OpenRouter and the model providers used through it, and Google’s Gemini services for generated speech. The provider and model can vary by feature and may change. Provider processing and retention depend on the service and configuration used; do not assume an AI submission is immediately deleted by every provider.
Microphone access requires your browser’s permission. You can decline or revoke that permission in browser settings, although recording features will then be unavailable. Text-based features remain available subject to your plan.
We store some generated responses and usage records to deliver results, support retries and track credits. Reusable generated lesson audio is cached so the same text does not need to be generated repeatedly. That cache is separate from recordings you submit for feedback.
Service providers and disclosures
We use service providers to operate HeyPolyglot, including:
- Supabase: authentication, databases and storage.
- Vercel: website hosting and application infrastructure.
- Stripe: checkout, recurring billing and the customer billing portal.
- OpenRouter and its model providers, and Google: AI processing and speech generation.
- Google Analytics, when enabled: information about visits and use of the website.
These providers receive information needed for their functions. Payment and sign-in providers may also handle information under their own privacy policies. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect rights or security, or in connection with a business reorganization or transfer subject to applicable privacy protections.
Information may be processed outside your country. Where required, cross-border transfers must use safeguards recognized by applicable data-protection law.
Cookies and browser storage
HeyPolyglot uses cookies and browser storage for sign-in sessions, language preferences, referral attribution and learning functionality. Some preferences, conversations or learning state may be stored on your device.
When Google Analytics is enabled, it may use cookies or similar identifiers to measure visits and interactions. Browser settings and extensions can block or delete cookies and local storage. Doing so may sign you out or remove locally saved preferences and progress.
Deleting your account does not necessarily erase data already stored in your browser. You can clear site data through your browser settings.
Retention and deletion
We retain account and learning information as needed to operate your account and provide the service. Retention varies by data type and purpose; some records may need to remain for billing, fraud prevention, dispute resolution or legal obligations.
You can delete your account from your account settings. This deletes the account and its linked learning and usage records from our active account database, and cancels active subscriptions. Stripe billing records, provider logs, backups or legally required records may remain under their applicable retention practices.
Canceling a subscription alone does not delete your account or learning history. Contact dan@datainterview.com for help with deletion or a request concerning information that remains after account deletion.
Your choices and rights
You can manage your language and voice preferences, microphone permissions and subscription through the app or your browser. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, or withdraw consent.
Send requests to dan@datainterview.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request. We will handle requests as required by applicable law, and you may raise concerns with your local data-protection authority.
Security and younger users
We use access controls and other technical measures to protect information, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Keep your sign-in credentials private and tell us if you believe your account has been compromised.
If you are a parent or guardian with a question about a child’s use of HeyPolyglot or the information they have submitted, contact dan@datainterview.com. Additional protections or parental permission may be required for young users under local law.
Policy updates
We may update this Policy as our features and data practices change. The date at the top shows the latest revision. We will provide additional notice of material changes where required.
