- Usually appears in the fixed phrase "nei pressi di" for location. Alone, it sounds formal or literary.
- More formal than "vicino a" or "dalle parti di". In everyday speech, Italians often prefer those alternatives.
- Normally used in the plural: "i pressi". Singular "il presso" is not used with this meaning.
