Usage notes
- Very informal. For neutral or formal contexts, prefer rubare, imbrogliare, lucidare, or strofinare depending on the meaning.
- Fregare qualcuno means "to cheat someone"; fregarsi qualcosa means "to steal something for oneself." Don't confuse the object patterns.
- In speech, non me ne frega niente is common for "I don't care at all," but it's blunt and can sound rude.
