Usage notes
- Use tranne before nouns, pronouns, or infinitives: tranne me, tranne questo, tranne dire la verità.
- Compared with eccetto, tranne is more common in everyday speech; salvo sounds more formal or legal.
- Before a clause, Italian often prefers tranne che + clause: Tranne che pioveva, tutto bene.
