Notas de uso

  • For time in the past, Italians usually prefer fa after the time expression: due anni fa. addietro is more literary or formal.
  • Placed after a time phrase: molti anni addietro. Don't put it before the number phrase in normal usage.
  • It can also mean backward in movement or position, but that use is less common in everyday speech than indietro.
