Notas de uso
- Most often used with negation: non ... affatto = “not at all.” Using affatto alone for “completely” sounds literary or old-fashioned.
- Don’t confuse it with assolutamente: in replies, affatto usually needs negation, while assolutamente can mean either “absolutely yes” or “absolutely not” by context.
- Common in speech after the verb or adjective: non mi piace affatto, non è affatto facile. It strengthens the negation.
