Notas de uso

  • Use che for both subject and object relative clauses; unlike English, it does not change to who/whom/that.
  • Do not use che after prepositions. Use cui instead: la persona con cui parlo, not con che.
  • As a question word, che is common before nouns: che libro? Alone, colloquial speech often prefers cosa or che cosa.

Notas de uso

  • Use 'che' for 'that' in clauses (e.g., 'Penso che tu abbia ragione'). Avoid 'quello che' unless specifying 'the one that'.
  • 'Che' for 'than' only in comparisons with adjectives/adverbs (e.g., 'più alto che mai'). Use 'di' with nouns/pronouns.
  • 'Che' as 'when' is informal; prefer 'quando' in writing or formal speech.
