- Use tasso for statistical rates: unemployment, inflation, interest, birth rate. For a price or fare, use prezzo, tariffa, or costo instead.
- Common in economics, finance, medicine, and statistics. In casual speech, percentuale may sound more natural when you mean a simple percentage.
- Often followed by di: tasso di disoccupazione, tasso di interesse, tasso alcolemico. Don't omit di in these standard combinations.
