- For store price reductions, sconto is the everyday word; ribasso is more formal and often used for market prices, bids, or official reductions.
- Use fare uno sconto for the seller giving a discount. Learners often wrongly say dare uno sconto in neutral retail contexts.
- Common with percentages and fixed amounts: uno sconto del 20%, uno sconto di 5 euro. del = percent; di = amount.
