- Use studioso for an academic or expert; ricercatore stresses active research, and scienziato usually refers to a scientist in the natural sciences.
- It often follows di to name a field: studioso di storia, studiosa di Dante. Don’t use *studioso in* for this meaning.
- As an adjective, studioso means diligent or bookish: uno studente studioso. Don’t confuse the noun and adjective uses.
