Common · Top 3,000

Meaning

equally

  • likewise

In a sentence

Io sono stanco, ma lei lo è altrettanto.

I'm tired, but she is equally so.

Buona giornata e buon lavoro! — Grazie, altrettanto!

Have a nice day and enjoy your work! — Thanks, you too!

Non lavoro molto, ma guadagno altrettanto bene.

Usage notes

  • Use altrettanto for comparisons: "è altrettanto importante". For simple agreement in conversation, "anch'io" is usually more natural than "altrettanto".
  • Often follows quanto/tanto: "non è altrettanto facile quanto sembra". Learners often overuse it where "anche" or "ugualmente" fits better.
  • As a reply, "Altrettanto" means "same to you": "Buona giornata! — Altrettanto!" This is common and polite.
